The couple shared their thoughts on Facebook over the controversy surrounding their relationship with singer August Alsina. The superstar couple said they were going through a ‘very difficult time’ and split when Pinkett Smith embarked on her first solo tour with husband Will Smith.
Smith urged his wife to be clear about her relationship with Alsina, but she said she had been involved since 1997 before marrying Smith in 1997.
In the interview, Alsina said: ‘I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation with him and I actually sat down.
We talked about it a few times and because it was romantic I gave him my blessing and he gave me his blessing.
The two said Friday they felt compelled to speak out because there has been so much speculation since Alsina’s interview. The couple have long been the subject of rumours of an open marriage, but have denied it, saying their marriage is not traditional and they have a civil partnership. Al-Sina said he lost money and the relationship because he was engaged to Pinkett Smith, 48, and said his marriage was not “traditional.”
Although we never said anything explicitly, ‘Will Smith said in an interview with the New York Daily News on Friday morning, according to the Daily Mail.
Pinkett-Smith said she began a friendship with Alsina four – and – a half years ago – but it got worse when she and her husband suffered a serious blow. What came up was that I felt we had just reached a point where I had to say something. The actress said she was in great pain to end the relationship because of it. I wanted to clarify with him that my husband gave me permission for the affair, “she said, adding:” I understand why the younger singer might have seen it that way.
Will tried everything to get away from each other, only to realise it wasn’t possible, and he tried to remind me of our commitment. Pinkett-Smith said her relationship with Alsina was over and the Smiths had since reconciled, but she had not spoken to the singer for over a year. She said she and her husband had now reached a place of unconditional love, saying: ‘I’m so grateful for that. Smith reminded her of her commitment and she said he wasn’t sure if he would ever speak to her again if they had a problem.
